halloween at the old jail
The original four-cell jail was built in 1808. Less than twenty years later in 1823, a larger stone jail was built to the read of the original structure, which was converted into a house for the jailor. The larger jail includes an exercise yard also used as a hanging yard until 1896. The jail was used until October of 1966 when the last prisoner left.
